-
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a short-term, goal-oriented psychotherapy that focuses on changing negative thought patterns and behaviours to improve emotional regulation and mental health. It is based on the idea that our thoughts, emotions, and behaviours are interconnected, and that by changing our thoughts and behaviours, we can positively influence our emotions.
-
Schema Therapy is a form of psychotherapy that helps individuals identify and change negative patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving that are deeply entrenched and often formed in childhood. It combines elements of cognitive, behavioural, and psychodynamic therapy to address these long-standing patterns, or "schemas”, and promote lasting emotional healing and growth.
-
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapy that helps individuals process traumatic memories and reframe negative beliefs that have resulted from those experiences. It involves guided eye movements, sounds, or taps to stimulate both sides of the brain while recalling traumatic memories, which can help reduce the intensity of emotions associated with the memories and promote healing.
-
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) combines elements of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and mindfulness to help individuals with mood disorders, personality disorders, and self-destructive behaviours learn new skills to manage difficult emotions, improve interpersonal relationships, and achieve their goals. It focuses on four areas: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.
-
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) combines mindfulness techniques with behavioural strategies to help individuals develop increased ‘psychological flexibility’. The goal of ACT is to help individuals become more aware of their thoughts and emotions, learn to accept them without judgment, and take actions that align with their values and goals, even in the face of difficult or uncomfortable emotions, which are seen as an inevitable part of the human experience.
